HOW DOES COUNSELLING DIFFER FROM COACHING?

  • Counselling comes under three main categories - supportive, for those people going through a difficult time and needing someone to listen to them and to 'be on their side', crisis management, who those people who suddenly find themselves in the turmoil of some form of crisis and personal growth, for those people who want to 'know themselves'.
  • Therapuetic Relationship in counselling is paramount.  The development of a trusting and safe relationship between client and therapist is fundamental to finding the most effective means for the client to address his or her life's difficulties and can act as a catalyst to understanding some of the difficulties they are experiencing - this is based on the theory that the therapist/client relationship will reflect the interpersonal relationships of the client.
  • Counselling, unlike coaching, is not specifically focussed on goals and tangible achievements, although this can be a part of the process, but rather undertanding and exploring the clients difficulties by reference to their life's experiences especially those from childhood.  The belief being that as the client understands what has contributed to the way they exist today, they are able to experiment at 'being' different in the safety of the therapuetic relationship, empowering them to take that back out into the world.
Conscious Eating Counselling will support you by exploring the roots of your eating difficulties and how you re-enact earlier ways of being in response to emotional triggers.  Self esteem, fear of intimacy, abuse, are just a few of the issues that are believed to link to eating issues.
